Tim’s snow day

The week could not have gotten off to a better start for the Tim Hortons team, regulars, and the Town of Grimsby.

“It was really tough to keep this a secret,” said Tim Hortons Grimsby owner Larry Thornley.

“I got a call about three weeks letting us know we were chosen. Only my wife, my daughter and one manager knew it was happening.”

What was happening was Thornley’s Main Street East Tim Hortons location was the sole outlet chosen from the 3,600-plus outlets across Canada for the company’s #Warm Wishes campaign.

A small army of corporate staff transformed the location overnight and what greeted staff and customers Monday at 5 a.m. was a vertiable, impromptu winter wonderland – complete with a snow-covered lawn and roof, plus all kinds of seasonal decorations.

Furniture in the interior had been switched out from the normal tables and chairs comfy leather armchairs and couches, with a fire place and hearth as well.

As part of the program, visitors to the log-cabin Tim’s could fill Warm Wishes cards with tales of someone who had done something nice in the community.

Many of these messages resulted in gestures such as coffee and Timbits for the night nurses coming off duty at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, a visit by therapy dogs to the Livingston Activity Centre and more.

As well, from now until Dec. 20, Canadians from coast to coast can use #WarmWishes on social media for a chance to win one of five donations of $5,000 for a charity of their choice.

“This is just great, a blessing. We are very honoured to have been chosen,” said Thornley.
The Warm Wishes Tim’s closes at 9 p.m, tonight (Monday).
