Shelley Ann Bradaric, West Lincoln, Ward 2

Shelley Bradaric

I am thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to further support the community I live in by running in this fall’s municipal elections for Ward 2 Councilor.  I do not see obtaining a seat on council as a political stepping stone, or career move but a way to give back to the community I have loved living in for 32 years.  I also believe that having someone sitting at the table with real life business experience coupled with community development experience and education will bring a common-sense approach to problem solving and community planning.

I want to help establish a fine balance between meeting the everyday needs of today, while developing the vision of a future far and beyond the next four years.  The Indigenous teachings of the “7th Generation Principle” is applicable in municipal decision making.  This principle reminds us of the impact of decisions on children seven generations from now.  This can guide us to what may be the right decision, but not necessarily the easiest.

I believe in an asset based community development model, working from the ground up.  Asset based community development is an approach to community development that emphasizes the gifts and capacities of individuals. Strong communities are places where local residents are identified, valued, and utilized.  Community development is a process of connecting individuals to other individuals and to associations within the community so that each citizen feels valued. I believe the key component of community development is relationship building. The people of West Lincoln are diverse in their strengths and assets. Council should be the driving force in bringing people together for the common good of the community.

I have been a resident of West Lincoln for 32 years.  Along with my husband Mike, we have raised our children in this community and have been active participants in various capacities.  We are passionate about this community and are your Ward 2 neighbors.
