NRP investigate Grimsby murder

A Lincoln Park Retirement Residence official notes all is well with staff and residents at the facility in the wake of a morning murder this morning.

While police conducted their investigation at the facility, Dave Bourne, director of communications for Sienna Senior Living, said late tonight information is still pending.

“The tragic incident that took place overnight was unconnected to this residence, and did not involve any team members or residents. Everyone here is safe, and we appreciate the rapid response of local police,” said Bourne.

“Questions about the incident or the investigation should be directed to the police department.”

While the facility was closed off with police tape and the investigation continued there throughout the day, Bourne said, ” it is unknown where the incident being investigated actually took place.

Police have not provided any additional details.

UPDATE:

Further investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit has resulted in a charge laid against a Toronto man following the death of a 31-year-old woman in Grimsby.
Mark Burrell, 39, of Toronto is facing the alleged charge of 2nd degree murder.
Burrell has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing on Feb. 6 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
Investigators can confirm the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

While Bartlett Road was closed from Main Street East to Central Avenue much of the afternoon, officers had the grounds of Lincoln Park Retirement Residence taped off while investigators continued their investigation inside.

Niagara Regional Police Service is investigating a murder after being called to Lincoln Park Retirement Resident in Grimsby in the early morning hours.

This morning (Friday)  at about 4:30am uniform officers from the NRP’s 8 District Grimsby office responded to the call.

Officers and paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services arrived on-scene to find a female requiring medical care for serious injuries.  The female was transported to a local hospital where she has died.

A male has been arrested.  There is no ongoing threat to public safety.

More information on the identity of the deceased and the person in custody is not being released at this time.
‘We hope to release more information as the investigation develops,” noted an NRP press release.

Road closures in Grimsby will likely be in effect for most of the morning.
The investigation is in its very early stages.  Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111 extension 9104.
