Alain Mukama, Ward 2, Lincoln 2022

My name is Alain Mukama. I am an Electrical Engineer by training and I’m currently licensed and registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). I hold two academic degrees from the University of Waterloo: a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering (2009) and a Master of Engineering – Electric Power Engineering (2011).I have been a resident of Lincoln, Ontario since April 2020. I’m running to be elected as a Ward 2 councillor in this year’s 2022 Municipal Election. I’m running for office because I strongly believe charity begins at home and that means investing in our community and environment. As someone who grew up in Sarnia, Ontario and attended post secondary school in Waterloo,Ontario, I have to say small towns are the best communities anywhere in Canada and the relationships one creates are more genuine, authentic and lasting. As an example of some of these relationships, I’m a soccer coach and have coached for the past two seasons organized by Lincoln Soccer Club/Revolution Soccer Canada. As a small town, we should endeavor to conserve and maintain the resources our community has. While expansion is ok, I don’t believe our town should build any high-rise condos/apartments as this might negatively impact the small-town feel and nature that our community currently enjoys. On the contrary, it is more important to continue to invest in more facilities and/or recreational areas for our children to use and play for their maximum well-being and development. Children are healthiest when they are outdoors playing, winter or summer. As we continue to be more connected globally via the internet, the trend has been for children to spend unhealthy amounts of time in front of computers, tvs, cell phones etc. While there are short term benefits to these devices, research has shown that there are also negative consequences to being always ‘connected’ to the ‘global village’. Some of these include low attention span, poor academic performance, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, etc. This is why as a councillor I will advocate to invest in our children’s bright future by ensuring that we have adequate funds to have activities for children all throughout the year! I will actively listen to the residents of Lincoln in order to understand the pressing issues and proactively table these issues at council meetings for discussion.Thank you for your time and see you on election day, October 24, 2022!
