Michelle Seaborn, Regional Councillor, Grimsby 2022

Whether you are new to Grimsby or are a long-term resident, we can all agree that Grimsby is a pretty nice place to live. My husband and I have lived on the escarpment in Grimsby for 34 years. We run a small mixed farm raising chickens and growing apples.

My name is Michelle Seaborn, and I am running for the position of Regional Councillor for the Town of Grimsby. I bring two strong assets to the table. First is strength and commitment through being a volunteer in the community. Whether it is volunteering to run the farmers’ market for 15 years, time spent on festivals, boards or in director positions on Grimsby and District Chamber of Commerce and Ontario Federation of Agriculture. My second asset is eight years as an Alderman for the Town of Grimsby which gave me the opportunity to participate in community committees and the various committees that make up the council. Collaborating with staff and a wide variety of community members was a very rewarding part of professionalism in the job.
.
In Grimsby we have a two- tiered system of government. The municipal council oversees the day-to-day concerns of residents. The mayor and one elected regional councillor represent Grimsby for the Niagara Region. The region takes care of a many of the services that most of us don’t think about on a day-to-day basis. Drinking and wastewater management, garbage, police, public health, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), housing, transit, roads, bridges, just to name a few of the areas that regional council is responsible for. In Grimsby, 53% of your tax dollars are allocated to the Region. It is important to have transparent, imaginative, and responsible representation to safeguard the needs of our community while focusing on improving the quality of life for all who call Niagara home while ensuring a high return on investment for their tax dollars.

My priorities are:
1 HOUSING: Affordability and rental unit availability
2 SENIORS: Redevelop the two long term care facilities run by the Region and work to implement a home care approach wherever possible
3 TRANSIT: The introduction on the Niagara Regional Transit (NRT)is a good start with 36,000 riders last year but each community donates a huge amount of money to keep the Niagara Falls, Welland, and St. Catharines bus systems running. We need to look at ways to bring about a higher level of service for the rest of the region.
4 BALANCE GROWTH in communities and ensure that INFRASTRUCTURE follows growth.
5 COLLABORATION: Find ways to work collaboratively with the Province and West Niagara municipalities by sharing services such as fire, EMS, hospitals, transit.
6 I WOULD ENSURE that the Livingston Ave Road extension and other major road improvements allow for public process and engagement
I would be honoured to represent the Town of Grimsby at Regional Council for the next four years. You can reach me at: voteseaborn2022@gmail.com or 905-945-7963 or 905-317-9763 voteseaborn2022@gmail
